Stalingrad Then & Now

In February, 2013 came to Volgograd known Moscow photographer Sergei Larenkov. Sergey met a group of local enthusiasts. Some of the pictures seem to me quite successful.

End of September 1942. 42 and 92 of the Marine Infantry Brigade hold the building silo. 9 days Soviet forces managed to contain the attack 94 Infantry Division and 24th Panzer Division. The picture was taken from the Raboche-Krestjanskay street.

Probably in the middle of October, General Paulus began to understand - something went wrong. 6 army headquarters is located 80 km from the city, in the village of Golubinskaya. Paulus makes a visit to the 71 Infantry Division, located in the city center and the center of the battle for Stalingrad.

This picture was taken from the position of the German forces defending the "Milk House" on the west side of the square "on January 9." On the contrary, on the eastern side of the square, Pavlov's House, the rails are drawn to the mill Grudinin on Sonechnaya street.

Stalin statue witnessed a brutal confrontation between 191 inf.reg. and 42 Inf. reg. 13 Guards Division Rodimtsev for the building of the railway station and a nail factory.

Famous fountain "Crocodile" on the forecourt. The fountain has become a symbol of urban fighting in Stalingrad.

February 1, 1943. Square of Fallen Heroes. This man can not stand. But all prisoners must reach lager № 108 in Beketovka. 20 kilometers away from the square. In the lager they are waited by a lodging for the night on the dirt floor, windows without glass, leaky roof.

Officers Cemetery 191 Infantry Regiment in Ostrovsky street. probably, exactly here was buried, Alexander von Hartmann, after his death, January 26, 1943.

Univermag. In the basement of this building General Paulus was promoted - Generalfeldmarschall. And from here beginning of his long journey through the Soviet lagers, Committee "Free Germany", Nuremberg process and quiet position of chief of police in Dresden.
