    Stalingrad Then & Now

Seeing as others are posting "Then & Now" comparisons, I thought I'd share one. Just today I received a photo showing German panzers on the high ground above the Don river in August 1942. Coincidentally, I had visited the exact same location in 2007, so I was very excited to get this photo and realise I had been on the exact spot... a small village called Trekhovstroyevskaya.

    All the best,
    Jason

          Extremely impressive.

Did you visit those other buildings after having obtained the original photographs, or is this just a phenomenal series of coincidences?

The first one was luck/coincidence. The others were planned. I had the original photos on hand when I sought out the locations (after first ensuring the buildings still existed courtesy of Google Earth). Some of those buildings were very hard to find.

                  Great photos

Most of Stalingrad was destroyed wasn't it? wouldn't be too many original buildings remaining ?

That's awesome. Must have felt strange standing where all of that happened. Some of the buildings look like they haven't changed much, but the photos don't lie.

You should consider submitting to After the Battle Magazine and suggest they introduce a readers' before and after section. With your description of how you went about it, it would make great reading and may inspire others too.
