    Two photos

Unfortunately, I do not have too much to contribute to this Chaplain thread, but I do at least have a couple of photos. I am in the process of trying to thin my collection of photographs out so that I can focus solely on my two main interests - the Luftwaffen-Felddivisionen and the Polizei - so I have been sorting through my stuff of late. These are two photos that I got awhile ago and kept, since I found the mortar/MG setup fairly interesting. The shots were taken from a little ways off, so they make sort of small images, but I scanned them at 1200dpi to get the most out of them. They appear to show the same chaplain performing services in the field. I really know nothing about this topic so I am sure you will all be able to "see more" in them than I can.

And Bill, if you are ever interested in parting ways with some of your Lw.Felddivisionen photos, please let me know before I get rid of all my "tradable" items!

Love those photos of the chaplain with the mortars around him. Think it kept soldiers from attending the service or was it used to get them to go to church. Wish my church had that same band playing...well sorta. Think they were playing "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God"?

                    Chaplain Stuff

                    Hi Jason,

Nice field photos of a Military chaplain. I've been currently searching through all my albums for such photos. I think most are sitting in boxes full of photos. It takes time to look. I'm sorry to tell you that LW Field Division is part of the core of my collection. I collect FJ, HG Panzer Division and LW Field Division. Sorry - Bill

                    Chris,

Nice death notices on Sani's and the Military Chaplain. I have the same death notice on Johann Gruber. Bill

                      One More Photo

This is essentially the only other photo I have in my collection which shows a Chaplain. On August 29th, the Soviets attacked the positions of the 6. Lw.Feld-Division around Kljashi and an adjacent hill at about 03:00 with about 250 men, following a heavy preparatory bombardment by artillery and mortars. The German trenches were only thinly held by the 7. Kompanie/6.Lw.Feld-Division. Attacking from three sides, the Soviets managed to roll up the trenches under the cover of heavy smoke and take both the village and the hill. An immediate counterattack by the reserve elements of the 7. Kompanie was repulsed, but a follow up attack conducted at 14:00 was able to push back the Soviets, retake the village and hill and restore the former MLR. The 6. Lw.Feld-Division suffered 30 killed, 64 wounded and 7 missing - almost all from the 7. Kompanie.

This photograph comes from a series of photos showing the funeral at the Heldenfriedhof Lugarskija of several of the officers and men from the 7.Kompanie/6.Lw.Feld-Division killed on August 29th. The two officers on the right are General der Flieger (later Fallschirmtruppe) Alfred Schlemm and Generalleutnant RĂ¼diger von Heyking, commander of the II. Luftwaffen-Feldkorps and 6. Lw.Felddivision respectively. Schlemm would later be transfered to the Fallschirmtruppe and command I. Fallschirmkorps for most of 1944. The soldier in the background behind the tree is photographing the ceremony - in later photos he can actually be seen taking pictures with his camera - however, I am not sure if he was a war correspondant or not.

Great photo, it looks like he is wearing a M38. Does he also have a holster on his belt?
