Here is a photo of Port I found online that I had not seen before.

Again, any information, photos, etc. of Port would be appreciated.

    Best,
    John

Here is a photo that was originally part of the group, but somehow got separated along the way. I would very much like to find this...

Thought I'd bump this one again.

Any member's familiar with the particulars of Port's KC story?

        Thanks,
        John

Here is a post card of Port. Not very flattering.

              Huh?

Thank you (and Ian) for posting the postcard and KC ceremony photo. I do indeed have original copies of both.

I'm hoping one day though that a period newspaper article or something will turn up describing Port's heroic actions that lead to this high award.

              Best,
              John

He was certainly a 'celebrity' at the time.

A huge parade in his hometown and on the cover of a magazine...

Almost a year ago since I started this thread here. Unfortunately, no luck learning more about Port's story at Sevastopol. An inquiry at NARA was not able to turn up his personnel file either.

Here is a recent pickup of a period booklet about life as an NCO in the German Army.

On page 23 one finds Johann Port again - mentioned as one of only 200 'Unteroffizier' up until that point decorated with the Knight's Cross.

Following up on this one almost a year later...

I'm still searching for additional information regarding Port's receipt of the KC in 1942. Has anyone ever seen a period newspaper article, etc.?

                      Many Thanks,
                      John

                        Hi everybody!

Who's the General awarding Johann Port with the RK?

                        Best,

                        KAISER

I believe it is Genlt. Philipp Müller-Gebhard.

                            Hi Guys,

I'm bringing this one up. Still hoping to find a press release or newspaper article for the award the Knight's Cross at Sevastopol for Feldwebel Johann Port. The time-frame would be late August or early September 1942.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

                            Thanks,
                            Joh

Just as a thought, there's companies here in the U.S. that provide newspapers for people's birthdays or other special occasions. For instance, if I was born June 3rd, 1967, I could buy a newspaper from that date from them (if they have them in stock).

Have you checked to see if any such business is in Germany? You'd have to probably provide a range of dates from a few days to few weeks after the RK was awarded, I'd suppose....

                                Hank,

I love that idea! I will definitely look into it.

                                Thanks,
