and if it is okay to post here, then here is some paperwork that could have belonged to any of the sailors here.

First up our sailor Albert signs up as Matrose with the Reichsmarine in 1928 for a 12 year period.

and finally as the 12 years runs out he's not discharged but gets a new promotion as Stabsbootsmann. This time he's on the Torpedoboot Greif.

Yes, interesting isn't it? I know that in the Heer, they would would use such straps to hide the unit numbers from view, but I'd never seen that in the Marineartillerie before. Looks like two different color stripes - I'm guessing grey and white just by matching the shades to the collar tabs. They don't seem like officer candidate stripes (Fahnenjunker) which wouldn't be in the middle like that, and which I believe would be on Obermaat straps rather than Matrosen-Gefreiter straps.
                    Best regards,
                    ---Norm

Hi Norm, I have some pictures with it, and I have seen it also in some Heer men pictures. IMO the strap is white and blue, and was used bu EM, NCOs and Officers. Sometime ago I read in any place that this was used by some units in soem area of Holland, but I'm not sure and can not find the source.
