(In Germany, most people with common names celebrate a day dedicated to that name every year. It's sort of an informal celebratory day, more or less a good reason to drink beer and/or schnapps. )

He was a painter by trade; He proudly wore the Edelweiss on sleeve and hat, fought through Poland and France, and now met his soldierly destiny in the east. HIs company leader said he served proudly, and he always cheered up his comrades with his good humor. His name won't be forgotten, either in Bad Tolz (likely his hometown) nor by the German people.
That's a condensed version.

Hi Hank,
Thanks so much for your help. With this image of a very brave Feldwebel, what was his name? I mean first he signs it Your friend and Comrade Richard, then he says Yours Toni Albrecht.
With Willi's name day, that's funny. Imagine everyone in Germany named Willi getting blasted just because they have the same name. Imagine if we did that here and everyone with my name John getting blasted.
The exact German text ist "...zum ewigen Andenken an[/COLOR] Ihren Freund und Kameraden Richard.
Herzlich gewidmet im Krieg 1943 - Ihre Toni Albrecht"
A lady named Toni (Antonie/female!) Albrecht has dedicated this photo of a soldier with name Richard (may be her husband) to a man named Raub.
Gerdan
Hi Gerdan.
Thanks for clearing that up. So the Feldwebel in the photo, was probably Richard Albrecht and he was friends with some guy named Raub, I assume that's a first name. So Richard's wife, Toni, gave it to Raub. Interesting.
Richard looks like he was really brave doesn't he? An EK 1 and II, the Wound Badge in Black and it looks like a Panzer Assault Badge, but I'm not sure on that one. Oh and the ribbon is for the Eastern Front Medal. Too bad there's no way to find out more about him, like his unit and if he survived the war.
Could someone give me some help with the following two entries. All I can make out is "kämpf" at the beginning of the second line. Any help would be appreciated.
