    Hi Gerdan,

As you look at the writing, in the lower right corner, there appears to be the year 1940. However, the black stuff covers up most of the writing. I got off some of it with my thumbnail, but not enough to make a difference. Bernd's idea of using a razor blade is interesting, but I don't have anything to practice on and I'd rather not use this photo as a test subject.

I try the German text, even when I have some difficulties:

" Bitte nehmen Sie und Ihre Frau Gemahlin den Ausdruck meiner..?.. Leitwesens (?) beim Hinscheiden Ihres Herrn Schwiegervaters an. Es tut mir sehr leid, dass ich Sie nicht zu sehen bekomme.
                      Mit herzlichem Gruß
                      Ihr ganz ergebenster Schm..."

                      Address:

                      Seine Hochwohlgeboren
                      Herrn von Meiss
                      Major im Kriegsministerium
                      Charlottenburg
                      Reichskanzlerplatz 4

                              1942 Christmas related photo

Here's a group photo taken in 1942. I was told that it was sent around Christmas time, but I'd like an exact translation if possible. Below is the front of the image.
