I don't exactly konw but I would prefer to translate "Riegel" in this context as "bolt" - as pauke says - as a military defensive line blocking of an area.

I hope the word "bolt" is correct in this context.

Hank, Pauke, Gerdan thanks a lot for help with translation. I was confused a bit by 'Riegel' word since it has several ways for translation but now I am sure that in my case this means a 'defense line'. Pauke sorry but I can't scan the image since have no a scanner in my current location.

Henke is indeed a person and there is a photo of two officers in a trench.

There are several shortening that I need help again from the same album:
