I read somewhere that it was so socially important in some of the university fraternities, that some men self-inflicted a scar on themselves.
A doctor like this guy (perhaps a student when it happened) would have had the right instruments to do it himself.
Of course those who did it in a real duel were congratulated by their friends.

Its common that you exchange a so called "Mensurzipfel" with your opponent after the Mensur as a kind of souvenir, with the names and date on it.
There are no winners or loosers in a normal sense, getting trough it means a win for both, regardless who took more hits.
Regarding the unknown SS Führer, i think these are "Schmisse", but he obviously fought a lot. ...and dit not care about his defensive moves.
