    Assuming Denis is right with the names, that drives to the conclusion that the pics are only reprints of ORIGINAL negatives - If the reprints are sold for what they are, they are not fakes (not forgered) but only postwar reprints.

      Here is a side by side comparison for those that asked for it. Different expressions, but those ears!! I am inclined to believe that this may be the same guy as well.

          At the start I thought they might be the same but having looked closely, I'm with François... they're not the same man.

            Just checked out Schmied in "Die Ritterkreuzeträger der Wehrmacht, Teil VI: Die Gebirgstruppe Bd.2" which shows two different pictures of him and i can say that it is definitely him or at least his doppelganger. One of the pictures shows him wearing the same uniform jacket as seen here.

            Regards

              OTTO SPRONK'S COMMENTS ON THIS THREAD

              Otto Spronk writes;

              This is very interesting thread. But in this thread there is only talk about fake-photo's, reprinted and staged photo's post war. What about the manipulated photo's during the Third Reich period ? I have seen press and published photo's of the following; Emil Maurice deleted (retouched) from a photo of Hitler with his bodyguard already in 1925. This photo is shown in Mollo, Uniforms of the SS, Allgemeine SS Volume 1 page 4. Only his feet are visible left next to Hitler's feet. Ernst Röhm was retouched of all photo's after 1934. The same happened to Rudolf Hess after his flight to England. Press-agencies including Hoffmann "upgrading" photo's of Knights Cross holders by adding with a retouching pencil, knights crosses, oakleaves and swords. The reason; you don't think those soldiers were recalled from the Russian front for making a new photo with their new award. Upgrading rank-insignia on the press photo's of SS-Leaders by adding a drawn star or stripe on the collartabs. Colonels becoming retouched generals, etc. Are those photo's fakes as well ? There is to much in the field of contemporary photo-manipulation to mention all. Curious about the opinions !

                Other examples of deleting people, is the the first POW, a Japanese submariner captured during the Pearl Harbor attack was subsequently deleted from group photos he was a part of, and the Russian had a penchant for deleting Cosmonauts killed in accidents from group portraits.

                "Ummm...I dont know what you talking about..never happened" sort of thing.

                Retouched photos from the era they were taken are genuine collectibles in my opinion, and very fascinating!

                  Reviving this thread.

                  While looking at a bunch of photos on eBay, I came across the one below. This was the one that started this thread. Whatever the provenance of this photo, the consensus seemed to be that it was made post-war and artificially aged. Does anyone have any reason to think differently since last year? I note that most of the linked pictures and links to other pages here don't work anymore, so some of the side-by-side comparisons, for example, are gone.

                    And in the same group of photos was the one below. Same guy, same uniform.

                      These particular photos, some studio shots, some in the field, some of soldiers, some of tanks and planes, all are stamped as coming from a Soviet military newspaper's files. For some reason I vaguely recall seeing this stamp before but I couldn't find a discussion about it when I searched.

                        Again from the same group and apparently in the same studio, an LAH lance corporal. Also with the same Russian stamp and the same stamp of a Würzburg studio.

                          Out of the studio, but with the same Soviet MVD stamp. Opinions?

                            And it seems like almost every picture is a fighter pilot, paratrooper, SS man, RK-Träger or Grossdeutschland member.

                              And sometimes a GD man and an RK-Träger.
