Hey all, what do you think of this document? Is it ok?

Hello James,

I like this document and can't see anything wrong at first sight (such as hand-written signature, stamp, no type-errors, correct unit etc,..). Only, I don't know the meaning of the small sign underneath the rank. Looks like an additional signature.
How does the paper feel? Lightweight A4-document or same kind of paper like the regular award documents for EK2?
It also appears that the name of the soldier, class of the award and date were added later. Judging by the darkness of the type-writing, it may be that the document itself was made earlier. On the other hand, one would expect that there were no award document shortages in 1939

Hello Laurens and thank you for your reply.

I didnt notice anything wrong with it either, it doesnt feel like the regular award documents, it feels lighter, thinner.
The official parts of the document look to be printed, but the soldiers name etc (part of a much larger grouping btw) are typed I think, but thats just my opinion.
Its a nice early award document, I personally havnt seen one this early but im sure there are a good few around.

I see nothing wrong with it

As for document shortages, more likely stocks of the newly re-introduced award hadn't yet reached this division or perhaps not enough of them.

How common is this type of general assault badge document? Its A4 again

On A4? not very, but it has no effect on the value.

Hey simon, im not so worried about the value, ive had this set for a long while now, he was an EK1 winner, died just outside moscow, well, i say outside, a place called Orel?

Ive got photos, heres one. I think this particular photo was taken after he was awarded his EK1, but im purely guessing.

Nice complete grouping there but i wouldn't say that Orel was 'just outside Moscow' ;-)

So judging by where this guy is buried, id say he is army group centre?

Had to comment once more because it's such a fine grouping. But I'm rather silent when I see the picture from his grave, death notice,...

I agree, its a very fine grouping, to a senior NCO. Ive got a couple of note books aswell, and he is keep records of the companys strength, then all of a sudden everything just stops.

I cant wait to get this grouping framed up, but I have none of the awards, guess ill have to save up, I want it to look good

Nice grouping James . The ekII document is signed on 10-10-1939 in the field. Maybe this has something to do that it is different
