Photographs on estand - original or repro?

    Hi

Can someone take a quick look at the photographs currently on sale on the estand. There are some comments that they could be post-war reproduction photographs and personally, I have to agree with the comments

    Thanks

These are without a doubt reproductions of well know press photos.

Perhaps the seller should notify the person who was considering purchasing the first one ($40 on HOLD!)

One can speculate when the prints were made but there's no question that these are well known photos that appear in various books.

Every print is a repro of sorts

To be fair, the seller has not stated they are originals. He just says that they are SS pictures for sale....which they are.

              The E-Stand rules are clear:
"Reproductions must be labeled clearly as such".
These are not and should be removed.

                E-stand photos

Those photos are obvious repros and well know motifs. The Russian text is also a give away as Bill Petz has pointed out and there are some really nice Panzer photos which have also shown up. There are far more dangerous repros than these on the market which a black light cannot detect. A friend of mine bought some photos from eastern Germany a few years ago (fantastic photos!) and we found them to be on modern paper with a coating which prevented illumination in a black light test. By scratching the surface they lit up.

My question is why are they even allowed to be sold here?

Or allowed to be listed in the photo section when they are clearly not photos.

IMO they are reproduction images from albums or books.

Not being labeled as original is using a loophole in the spirit of the photo section where 99.9% of the forum members assume the sellers are selling quality period photos.

                  Cheers

                  Karl

Thanks for the warning on these pics I thought they were original pictures from someone's album so I am going to email the seller and tell him I am going to pass on this picture. I appreciate everyone's input

                      Max,

These photos are clearly not original prints....which is why I asked for them to be put up for discussion and expose them for what they really are...Repros. They have been discussed in other threads before but apparently not everyone is aware of those discussions as another member was willing to pay $40 for a photo I would not even consider buying. The E-Stand thread where they were posted are for originals only....anything else must be clearly marked post-war or repros and placed in the Bazaar bin where it belongs. Bill

Thanks to the people who politely PM'ed me and let me know these are repros. I had no idea. I posted them a few weeks ago and nobody said a word about them. They do not glow so I thought they were ok for an old KGB reprint if anything. I have had them for a long long time. I will pull them from the e-stand. I am not trying to take anyone and did not appreciate some of the posts and PM's implying I am a crook and worse. It is easy to say some of the things said to me via PM over a PC. I wonder what would be said face to face? PC tough guys you got to love em.

I would have said the same.

I think they are well known fakes out of the Ukraine. Explained my reasoning and said hope you did not pay a lot for them.

                          Cheers

Hello Karl, Your post was great. I have no problem with being set straight on an item I have not got right. Some of the PM's went above and beyond what they should have. I worked all day and came home to that. Like I said I posted them a few weeks ago and not a word. Most of the time bad items get 3-4 pages of posts in a few hours. I got them years ago for next to nothing at an estate sale. Not a big loss at all.
                            Thanks, Scott

Here is the link to the thread where I posted them. It was on the German helmet board. I thought I had posted them here but did not.
