That info looks wrong to me as Gustav Preßler was Kdr. at the time!?!?!?

Mind you, around that time it was renamed Schlachtgeschwader 1, what do you have on that BHS?

Isn't this a list of Sturzkampfgeschwader 1 (St.G. 1) and Schlachtgeschwader 1 (Sch.G.1)?? They were two seperate units....Weiss, Hitschhold and Drueschel were definately Sch.G. 1.

          St.G. 1 was renamed Schlachtgeschwader 1 neu (S.G. 1) in (18?) October 1943, the old Sch.G. 1 became split into SG 2, SG 9 and SG 77

Stab/St.G. 1 was renamed Geschwaderstab/SG 1 at Bobruisk on 18.10.43. The Kommodore of SG 1 were:

              Kommodore:
Obstlt. Gustav Pressler (RK, EL, DKG) (18 Oct 43 - 22 Apr 44)
              Maj. Peter Gassmann (RK, DKG) (22 Apr 44 - 8 May 45)

The letter to the wife is dated 21.11.43, a month after the change in designation.

Prior to 18 Oct 43 there were St.G. 1, 2, 3 and 77, and Schlachtgeschwader (Schl.G.) 1 and 2. Then came the big reorganization that your referred to and brought an end to the Stuka Verbände as all of the ground attack units were brought together to form Schlachtgeschwader (SG) 1 thru 10. Note the subtle difference in abbreviation for Schlachtgeschwader before and after 18 Oct 43: Schl.G. before and SG after.

The Kommodore lists I put up are correct and are based on the Luftwaffenpersonalamt assignment orders. The Michael Holm site, and Michael is a friend of mine, took most of its Stellungsbesetzung information (commander listings) from Mehner, Kurt and Reinhard Teuber, Die deutsche Luftwaffe 1939-1945: Führung und Truppe (Norderstedt: 1993), and from Zweng, Christian, Die Dienststellen, Kommandobehörden und Truppenteile der Luftwaffe 1935-1945. Band 1: Nr. 1-10 (Osnabrück, 1999). These two sources frequently disagree on names and dates. So the researcher/historian has to be careful when using the http://www.ww2.dk/ web site because there are a multitude of errors. Michael did the best he could using very limited resources and he gets 5 gold stars for setting up his web site and making his data available to all. But he will be the first to admit that it is only a starting point for the researcher.
