If the pictures taken of the liberation of Breda were taken soon after the action, could they indeed be of Poles?

            Doug,

I believe it is way after the fighting has gone past and I don't think they are Poles.

              Hi Bill,

The photo in posting #31 is a Belgian carabinier cyclist pre 1914 uniform.
This unit fought in the battle of Halen in 1914, the last cavalry charge "in force" in the world, the battle of the silver helmets.
Their nick name was the black devils.
Very small unit and avery unique photo!!!
              Congratulations.

The other two are Belgian infantry soldiers in the periode just before WW2.

              Cheers,
              Peter

Bill, #32 and #33 are Belgians as you probably already knew. Very nice training photo in #32. They're not that easy to find.

I found a set of four books at the flea market in Rotterdam this morning. They are very interesting as they cover the period of invasion and occupation to liberation. Lotsa info, photos, maps in between on the political system NSB, SS NSDAP, evacuation of Jews to KZ, underground movement, Etc. covers the period of 1940-45. No date that these books were published. Books are 700 to 800 pages each. I paid 15 Euros for them.

                            Bill,

I love this thread. I envy you being posted to Europe. I wish when I was in that I got a posting to Europe but they were few and far between. Nothing like that here is OZ. So keep them coming.

                            Cheers

                            Scott

PS - Dont forget to be on the look out for Arnhem Sept 1944 related stuff for me when you are over there.....

                              The pictures taken from Breda.
are made in front of town hall indeed and the other pictures are taken in a barrack that is still standing toll this day.
I don`t know the name but i can find it out next time when i get over there.
I live about 15 min. driving distance from there.

I think it is a chezoslawakian tank (because of the flag attached).
Breda was liberated by polish tank corps wich fell under british authority.
along with british and american infantryunits.
(the american infantry was the 104 th ,,timberwolves,,).

In breda there is also the military academy wich in the waryears was used by the germans for the naval school.
I have pictures (not originals) of navycadets who are marching in breda and pictures of the mlitary academy where the cadets take the oath to adolf.

                                Hello,

The Dutch have it great there compleet history of what happend during WW2 has been written down by the excelent historian L.DeJongh.
I can only wish that Belgian WW2 history would be written down so compleet and available in book form.

                                Cheers,
                                Peter
