    Hello Bill,

You sure found a nice reference book (the one with the Dutch kia list in it).

    Cheers,
    Peter

I wonder if there's a similar (well, longer of course) published list of Belgian KIA's of 1940? There's some for the resistance, but never seen anything on the Belgian military.

          Tim,

It could be possible....I'm always running across books I've never seen before and one of your fellow countryman could have written a similar post-war book. The book I have is dated 1945. I always dig through boxes of old books whenever I see them and sometimes come up with some interesting books....I cannot read Dutch but in this type of book you see that it plainly covers the deaths of the Dutch Soldiers in the 1940 Invasion of Holland by the German Army. If I ever come across one for the Belgian Military l will contact you. Bill

Thanks Bill. Such a list would be very welcome as I am researching all the KIA's of a specific battle. It's a lot of work to go through all the names and units in the archives in Brussels, and I'm sure more than one slipped through the mazes of my net.

You should learn Dutch as you're in Holland now

              Hello,

Alas such a book about the Belgian May 1940 KIA's doesn't exist.
Even the offical list kept in the military archive in Evere isn't compleet.
The figure 7500 kia Belgian soldiers in May 1940 is only an estimate.
Ofcourse the list kept in the military archive is a good reference.

              Cheers,
              Peter

I made a quick trip to the market this morning to pick up some cheese and bread and look around the bric brac side of the market and found a few photos. Here is an interesting Postcard from Utrecht.

Next are five postcard size photos of what appears to be an inspection and review but not sure if they are British, Dutch or Belgian Forces. I'm thinking British but I believe the Belgian and Dutch forces were wearing British issue during exile, liberation in 44/45 and then post-war.
Reverse of all photos say: Fotografie Artistiek, N. v. Zijerden, Fidderstraat 4, Breda Tel 3234

                                Hi,

Nice finds ! The photos were indeed taken in Breda. The first is showing the townhall, which has the same function in these days. The other ones must be taken at some of the military barracks in the city, because in the backround of nr.2 you can clearly see the round ''roof'' of the prison. And that prison is still used today.
I estimate that the photos will be taken short after september 44 ,when Breda was liberated.

                                regards,

                                Etienne
