    Heydrich Stamps

I bought a set of Heydrich stamps from Manion's that were advertised as "copies" so that I could learn what fake Heydrich stamps look like. Well, it's pretty hard to tell any difference.

Someone did a really good job on these. They may have been printed using the same plates as the originals. If you are familiar with the flaws on the Heydrich plates, then you know about the "egg head", the "1842" errors, etc. I can see these errors on the fakes as well.

In this picture, one set is fake, one is genuine. Can anyone tell which is which? They look identical under black light. The paper looks and feels the same. But, I haven't looked at them under a microscope yet.

It's very difficult to tell on a PC browser, but there is a slight difference in colour and quality of printing. The bottom row of stamps look more professionally produced, but this could be due to modern printing methods. If I had to choose, I would guess that the top two are modern reproductions, but I am no philatelist.
    Max.

Keep in mind......it's not the first time that an auction house has labelled as fake something that is actually original!

I think these 'copies' you bought are actually the real thing.

Things like this regularly appear on the internet for low prices..........look at the stamp sellers, not the overpriced militaria dealers.......

The going rate for a Heydrich stamp is about $2.

Just check eBay etc., as well as the internet stamp dealers.

Heydrich stamps look nice, but they are not at all uncommon.
