Great photo Mark! I really love the quality of vehicle photos you have. As for the vehicle in question I believe it to a Horch medium personel vehicle. The Styer did not have an exposed radiator cap where as this vehicle shows just that.

Here is a photo from what I assume to be a Recon. Unit. Larry, I believe the vehicle in the forefront is a Steyr 1500 as it has the rounded front end.

Marc, your (and others') photos are as nice as mine and I think it's only the grass is always greener on the other side.

But one thing though; I believe that we are not doing mine-is-bigger-than-yours thread, are we? Then it's all about our readers... What part of your photo will attract readers' attention... That's the most imporant thing.

My current answer to the question is to crop the photos to emphasize what I want my readers to see. So my photos are almost always cropped, often in portrait style, because this site allows you to post 700pixel wide x 750 pixel height. Then you can show more subtle details - insignias, vehicle parts, etc. - to the viewers rather than showing the entire image without details. God is in the details!

The side-effect of cropping is to prevent image lifters to save only the part of the photos instead of its entirety. If the image lifter says that it's his own, you can say "then show me the rest, bitte!". Of course, some photos are so artistic that cropping can be considered a crime, but for the most case, it will work better, in my opinion.

Akira, not a bigger or better contest, but the clarity of the photos you posted above is excellent (ie, #23, 25, 26 are the photos in particular that I refered to) and the subject matter is very well represented. Not competing here...And yes great pictures shown by all! They all have something to add/show.

I usually do crop the photo as well, but do so as a security measure. I agree - "Show me the rest of your photo!" is a sure way to confirm. I did a search in google recently for images of Guderian. I opened the links and was suprised to find one of my photos on a Spanish language site - with full credit given to me and this site mentioned. I thought that was appropriate.

My opinion, but I like to see as much of the scene as possible to give full context.

My friend Kitamura-san hates close-ups... The context is what he loves.

Both methods have its own place... Here with the complete context, soldiers in front of three Sd.Kfz.263 (8Rad)s.

As you can see, you can't read the licence number (by the way, the picture is sharpness-enhanced by 65% with Photoshop).

The next picture is a cropped one to show the first armored car. Now you can clearly see the licence number. The picture is 100% sharpness enhanced and a bit of dust patching is done for better looking.

As a side note, this photo is an old photographic duplication (optical copy) of the original (the photo studio marks it as such). Excellent photographic work can keep the quality of the picture.

I am not a fan of people who trawl Ebay and other auction sites using other people's images to post in this sort of thread.

I have noticed that you do this a lot at the other militaria website.

If you have any of your own pics to share I would love to see them.
