      Blitz Maiden

      Hi Ade,

Thanks for your help. What was significant about the piping on her cap? I was thinking that it was the Army eagle on the right side of her jacket that indicated that she was an Army Nachtrichtenhelferin. I knew she had to be in some sort of signals unit with that Blitz pin on her tie. Are thouse type of pins worth anything now?

hi John, the eagle is of course a dead giveaway for Heer. The cap is also a special one for women with the eagle and piping set up.

The broaches are hard to find. I have seen one on the forum once, but I cannot find it now even after a search I think that they sell very well.

        Cheers, Ade.

Hi Here is a photo of what I was told was a female member of RAD. Any help with patch identification would be appreciated.

                  Bezirk II

                  Hi Michael,

Thanks for the response. What was Bezirk II, and what did RADwJ mean? I know that a male member of the RAD would do physical labor and such. What did a female member of the RAD do?

Because it's DRK-Schwester Hanny Weber, one of very few women to receive the EKII in WW2. She also has a Volkspflege award, Africa Campaign medal and the Africa cuff-title. She won the EKII for tending the wounded during a British air raid at El-Alamein. (Source Auszeichnungen des Deutschen Reiches 1936-1945 Dr. K-G Klietmann).

Is this a post-card? I've seen others for female EK winners - was there a series of them?

Interesting. A cropped version of the same picture is used in Klietmann's book (p.35 of the 1999 Motorbuch Verlag edition).

                            Hi John,

The Reich was divided up into a number of zones or districts, and in German these were called "Berzirk".

The wj in RADwj simply means female youth of the RAD (Labor Corp).

Here is link with a few more pictures from an original female labor corp picture book from 1940. It might give you a better idea of their various work uniforms and duties:

Thanks for all the info so far - maybee someone could identify the other nurse with EKII (on the right)?
