        VERY NICE PHOTOS CHAPS........

Akira........ very nice to see that color photo.
Seems all sorts of material was used, wood mainly, but
I notice weathered cardboard and metal.

Who was responsible for doing these, they must have had teams
of signwriters, as most look sharply done, stencils etc.

The 'Russian Bear' made it to Berlin 3 and half years after this pic

        Cheers,
        John

thanks xen for posting this photo. What is nice for me is I have a photo grouping belonging to a fellow in the 2nd kompanie of the 605 transport unit. The red ball is the unit symbol.

These signs interest me because it helps us to identify unit markings, as Mike has just written!

Here signs are being made by "sign artist" of 24.Panzer-Division.

                    Hi Akira,

We may never find a colour version of my sign but maybe it looked something like this.

                      Akira ---- Wow.....

Stencils, brushes, paints, turps and blanks..........

Most important function I would say, after the battle had passed.
Important to keep the supplies moving to the various units and directions
to ammo dumps, commo sections, medical stations etc.

Larrister... Nice Job on the colourisation..

                      Cheers.

As usual excellent colorization, great Larry!

http://tamiyashop.jp/shop/images//3/2/32509.jpg - this is Tamiya's interpretation of the sign. I am sure this is not based on color photography and not necessarily correct. As there are not a few color slide collectors out there, there must be at least one slide, and I hope some day it will be shared.

From the photo of Schilderwald in Gomel (thanks XEN for sharing!):

Fp-Nr.01821 = 8.Kp.Armee-Nachrichten-Regiment 563 (as of April 1940). The regiment was subordinated to 2.Armee in Russia. It is not one of 2.Armee's insignias in Schmitz/Thies, so it is either the unit's own insignia or unrecorded 2.Armee insignia... Our friend Richard may have the answer.

Excellent photos and detective work guys! Here is one showing the way to Moscow with the familiar Russian Bear as a backdrop holding a rifle of some kind.
