Double Jeopardy ???
Before 1992 it was quite difficult for me to obtain an embroidered arms
WW2 era Soviet flag for my collection - the only way I was able to get one was to finially locate such a flag that had been captured by the Germans, and then retaken again by a US soldier from the Germans. Photo shows a German captured Soviet Ukrainian standard - oddly enough the current Ukraine is now a primary source of such WW2 era Soviet flags! What goes around, comes around I guess?

Werner,

Expanding your horizons?? I thought only RSO's and 251's were your thing!! l

Please Empty out your PM Box!!!

Did you ever get a chance to mail off those FJ pics?? Just wondering. Do you collect GI photos as well or just photos that catch your eye. - Bill

bill,
actually after some unfocused juvenile militaria collecting i restarted my interest with collecting all kind of Panzerfaust stuff (i´m talkin about hardware, not pics only). Then various vehicles followed before i specialised in the RSO. Somehow, as you noticed, this is against my nature, i´m usually drawn to all kind of things that tell a good story (for instance http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...1#post1207122). The self-imposed monotheism of my new RSO religion was a good and sobering experience, otherwise my collection would have grown like weed. so much for horizon.
yes, i mailed the FJ pics ten days ago, the pm box is cleaned up now.
found this on my HD as well. not sure where its from.
cheers, werner

-

Superinteresting thread! Sad in a way to see all those items in the hands of GIs, but on the other hand I guess we have to thank them in a way, because much of the stuff seen here wouldn´t be around today, if it wasn´t for those longfingered guys.

Ludwig,

The world might be much different today if Nazism wasn't stamped out back then by those very GI's...my Dad was one of those GI's and yes.... he did bring back some souvenirs as well as some nightmares of the War - Bill

Werner,

I guess I hit on one of your dark secrets!! Nice photo!! I'm glad you now concentrate on RSO's...if you get tired of those GI photos that you have give me a shout!! I will be looking out for those FJ photos in the meantime. Thanks - Bill

In reference to the member who was inquiring about the british sword i have this..A few years back at one of the local gunshows in the U.S.,an old g.i. brought out his war souvenirs for sale. They were mostly japanese, but one was a British pattern WW1 sword. This intrigued fellow collectors , even more so when it was found to have a Canadian officers name on it from the BlackWatch. The sword was purchased and so began a two year search for this man.

Eventually through the help of a newspaper,it was found that this sword had indeed belonged to a Kingston area family, and was the property of a major who was killed at the battle of Ypres.

Here is the kicker..the sword was returned to the family after the war,and presented as gift to his son before his departure to

.....Hong Kong..! needless to say, this sword was acquired by the Japanese and was in their posession when captured by the Americans!..The sword now resides with the original family in Canada..what a journey! that is historyfolks!
