    Rocket Man

This GI is probably wondering how he is going to get this "souvenir" in his duffel bag! His caption states incorrectly that this is a "V-2." I am at a lost to determine whether this is in fact a real piece of ordnance or a prototype model. Possibly some of our German rocket experts can weigh in on this photo.

Towards the end of the War, the Germans were developing some pretty fancy air launched guided missiles.
          Is this one of them?
It looks the right size to be dropped from an aircraft.

            X-4

Here is a photo of an American officer and a X-4, wire-guided, air to air missle. The cylindrical projections on the wings were for the bobbins of wire.

              X-4

The missle had a 40 kilogram warhead with a proximity fuse.

                Mike,

Glad to see that you joined in on the thread. Nice pics!! It's strange that the GI's thought that rocket was a V2 but then again I've seen a few photos labeled Tiger tank when it was actually a Panther or a Mark IV. Thanks for sharing you pics = Bill

Ghendrick! Nice pic of the X-4...not a picture you see too often! thanks for sharing it with us all

                    fantastic war booty photo

This is a great war booty photo. I got it right from a vet. He was on ship coming home from the pacific. There was a mixture of European and Pacific vets on board. The was was over before most of them could participate. Anyway, there was anouncement on the load speaker on day saying for everyone with souviers to bring them up on deck for photos. That is why the banner in the background say Japa-nazi bazzar. It you look carefly you can see the folding stock of an MP40 on the front row. There are Jap and German helmets in the photo also.
I had to make a copy of the photo, he would not give it to me.

                        Dan,

Those pics are great and very unusual in the fact that both German and Japanese are shown in the very same photo. This reminds me of when I was a kid growing up in New Jersey...a school friends father fought against the Germans and Japanese. I picked up a German helmet and Japanese helmet from him for nothing....those were the days!! Thanks for sharing those pics and too bad you don't have the originals.

Here is a pic I just picked up in a GI Italy photo album. Two GI's sporting two Italian Karabinas amongst the ruins somewhere in Italy

                          Mike,

This is a crop of a US Army Signal Corps photo (US National Archives Record Group 111-SC-204544S). It was taken 4 May 1945 in Lembach, Austria, showing a vehicle of the 11th Armored Div.

#72 - There is no caption on this photo but it would appear this American Colonel is possibly posing at the Berghof. A captured German Army helmet has been placed on the wall.

This was indeed at the Berghof on the Obersalzberg, Berchtesgaden - at the wall running around the front terrace. Those are the Untersberg mountains in the distance - Hitler's favorite view.

                          Regards,

                          Geoff Walden

Thank you very much for supplying the missing information to the two photos I posted.

sword and perhaps a little something else?

I have several pictures I got from a vet who said he got them from the Army Photographer, most don't have booty in them, some have dead japs, don't know if anyone would want to see them, if so let me know where to post.
