Great pics guys!! Thanks for contributing to the thread and keeping it going.

Bill your pic of the vet and his booty reminds me when I was a teenager obtaining alot of German items from the vets. I got a super P38 pistol for $10 unfortunately the vet cut off the flap of the hardshell holster so he could access the pistol quicker.

I agree with the "photo quality theory" My dad grew up on a farm and most likely never handled a camera until he went to Europe. I am sure he had no ideas about F stop or shutter speed or back lighting.
Dad brought home a nice captured Zeiss but like everything else it has long ago disappeared...

Thanks for your comments. I believe the reason for this (in my opinion) is that many GI's captured German Cameras but did not know how to properly operate a German camera. Some never even had owned a camera before... especially during the depression years. My Dad captured a Voitlander camera... the first he ever owned and I still have it in my collection.

              Tim,

There is a high interest in collecting GI photos and I've noticed the prices going up on GI photo albums. Depending on content the price of GI albums surpass the price of German photo albums. especially those that contain knocked out German tanks and equipment.

I would like to see photos of Germans with their captured booty. I have seen a few over the years with the odd Tommy helmet or French helmet but not much else.

From what I can see american photos are usually of lower quality than German ones, is this true? If we look at yours there are areas of whiteness etc. that you don't often see on German photos, usually german shots are nice and sharp with little white out. Is there any reason for this? are Germans just better photographers? Or have I not seen enough American photos?
I would love to see anymore photos you have Bill and if anyone else has any, at least I'm enjoying them!

I believe there was a thread on the forum that showed Germans wearing British helmets. I'm sure you can do a search and if not then start another thread if you have any photos of Germans wearing such items. The thread I started here should stick to the theme of GI war Booty.
Thanks for your comments on the photo quality theory. My Dad did tell me it took him awhile before he got the photos right. Bill

These photos are simply fantastic, I really love war booty and the late war element to most of the pictures adds to the fun. The comparison between then and now pics on items is best of all, just like Tim Calverts RK and the pictures he has of it in the war, in my mind absolutely priceless.

Hi Bill, the "then & now" photos are just great!

                              Cheers, Ade.

The little pistol in the GIs hand is a little .25 automatic called a MELIOR produced in Belgium under German occupation, I put it at the top of the flag since the GI was not around......The SA dagger.. I gave to my brother...BILL
