Unknown tank killer not unknown anymore?

    The soldier in this thread:

    http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=515367

has confused collectors for some time now.
No doubt the tunic is original and the very same, as in several wartime photos. But who is he?
IMO it´s the same man, as in yet another thread here, Helmut Liebeskind, aid of Hans von Luck.
Compare the pictures! Nose, ear, chin, hair... The same!
Liebeskind never got the Knight´s Cross, and why he is wearing it, we will never know. Perhaps he, for some reason, thought he was going to get it and felt so certain about it, that he had the photos taken on leave?

He is a bit thinner to the left, but everyone who has done military service, knows that you can loose weight pretty fast!

Ludvig, what is not said is that the photos that came with the tunic shows that the officer first was in Africa as pzaufklärer and then in Normandy. That matches perfect Liebeskinds war service.
      Well done!

It is unbeleavable that such soldier is still unknown. Even if it is Helmut Liebeskind, damn 3 TDBs (possible RK) and no picture database. Also from all the pictures avaleable, only two are showing the RK or TDBs. As this Helmut Liebeskind was fuly active after the war, maybe more data could be found of him, even when his child was born (on the picture) and if it is realy him, we could place the date when the picture was made. The child is about 1 year-2 years old.

Lets hope that one with more access to some database or pictures archive sees this thread and gets more pictures or facts.

If it is Helmut Liebeskind then the photo was taken after the war.

Liebeskind married in July 1944 - at 23 years of age.

If someone can get a copy of his records from NARA that might show that he was nominated for the RK. I have the waffenrock and records of Oberst Walter Siegfried who served in multiple battalion and regimental commands on the Eastern front. In the awards section of one of his last efficiency reports it lists that he had been nominated for the RK. The next 2 efficiency reports do not show the RK listed but do show the awarding of the Heer Honor Roll Clasp. I assume that the RK was, for some reason, downgraded/disapproved and the Honor Roll Clasp awarded instead. This could be the same for this officer and he was not aware that the award was not approved or, due to the lateness of the recommendation, it never was officially approved.

It might be that the picture was taken on the weading day,...we would need the childs born date (he might be already born when they got married)

Liebesking got both promotions in 1944, oberleutnant Februar 1944, Hauptmann November 1944 (it could be after the weading in July 1944) but if it is him,...why the RK in 1944. He was in captivity untill 1949 so that yould mean the picture would be realy late if it was taken after war.

The birth year of his child (if it is his child on the picture) would be a good lead when the picture was taken.

and even better, his records from NARA, as Gary B suggested.
