Hauptmann Eugen BESEMER

Hello,

Aas part of my history of the 357. ID, I have run across quite a few Feldpostbriefe from Hauptmann Eugen Besemer with the Feldersatz Batl 357 and later (as of Sept 1944) Stab / Grenadier Regiment 946.

In his letter he talks about equipping "his" Bataillon, waiting for the new recruits to arrive, ect.

I know the Hauptmann (RKT) Otto Hafner eventually lead the Feldersatz Batl, but would like to know if anyone can tell me anything about Besemer.

On the Volksbund site I found the following:

Name: Eugen Besemer
Dienstgrad: Hauptmann
Geburtsdatum: 30.09.1913
Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 13.02.1945
Todes-/Vermisstenort: Wieschont/Kattowitz (bei), ca. 11 km westl. v. Bielsko-Biala

I assume this is the man I am looking for, but have no other information about him. sort of writing the WASt and waiting for an answer from his town of birth (looking for relatives), I am at a dead end. Further to this I have the attached document to the Leutnant of the FEB and the document is sign by a Major and Batl Kdr (can any read this signature?) who I cannot identify.

Where did you find this information? At the National Archives? I suppose the original should be at the Militärarchiv in Freiburg, correct?

I had a look in the recent German phone book and I found about 20 entries "Besemer"

for "Wiflingshausen" the place where your guy was born 1913.

Wiflingshausen today is part of Esslingen/Neckar.

One entry: Gunhild Emma Besemer today is living in the Holzwiesenweg 6, that is the same street your guy was born Holzwiesenweg 13. Gunhild should live very close to his (former) home.

May be you contact that lady (or others Besemers)?

I have contact a number of Besemer (names from the phone book) and also the Eugen Besemer listed in teleauskunft...then I checked Volksbund and I assume that the Hauptmann E Besemer that was KIA in 1945 is "my man". The info on Frau Besemer is very interesting and worth a respectful letter.

I have his Feldpostbriefe to a Frau Maria Gruber, (apparently not his wife). I collect Feldpost and I read 1000s of letters and these are some of the most romantic letters I have ever read...so I want to be very careful and respectful approaching any relatives...even after so many years.

Can anyone tell me who the Btl Kdr ist who signed the ISA document? I guess wiht a Hauptmann rank that Besemer was a Kp Kdr within the Btl...I am just not sure. I also know that Hptmn Otto Hafner (RKT) was also a commander in or of the Btl.

Hi Erich.

Yes, this copy comes from the US National Archives and the original should reside in Freiburg. Although under 'lock and key' for anyone other than the family.
