        Hello Pitomnik:
Interesting item. Indeed appears to be a German
military unit emblem HQ marker. Looked around
for a spotted lion, rabbit, cat, etc., but did not
find, so far, any matching figure. Red background
likely, IMO, means it was used by an artillery unit.
Checked several online emblems sources such as

WW2 German Army OB sources indeed have the
            44th ID (Austrian Reichsgrenadierdivision Hoch-und-
Deutschmeister) listed as "virtually destroyed at
            Stalingrad in Jan 1943

              1. This is - Lynx !
              2. I found similar wappen with lynx - is wappen of "Luchs im Wappen derer von Lossow"

a Bavarian, rather than an Austrian - Austria
being the likely origin unit of the metal pennant.
Would love to hear more about where & how
the posted battlefield pennant was found.

This pennant was found in "Donbogen" area (near Stalingrad).
The basic color - is Rosa (not red) .
The color of shield - is "silver/red" .
Pennent has one more shield under top layer of a paint !

What about Major Jobst von Lossow, commander of Panzerjäger-Abteilung 46? A rose-coloured triangular pennant seems apt for a panzerjäger unit, and as 44.Inf.Div. was in the Don Bend, everything seems to fit.

If this pennant is for Pz.Jg.Abt.46, then it is a very exciting discovery. I have more info about von Lossow in required.

                          You're welcome.

That is the first ground-dug item that has interested me. Very nice find! Did you record the exact location where it was found? Maybe up near Sirotinskaya?

                            Hello Jason:
Interesting, was JvL an Austrian? Wondering how
he managed to survive capture at Stalingrad?
