Thanks Simon, that really helps a lot.
Here follows the page for decorations and pages for leave I think.
The handwriting is really difficult to make out so I am impressed that you can make head or tail of it.
    Thanks
    Sven

Interestingly the Wound Badge in not entered on page 22:

1.7.1941 War Merit Cross 2nd Class with Swords
11.12.1942 Trade patch for the Flak arm (Tätigkeitsabzechen der Flakartillerie - This was a cloth badge worn on the left sleeve)

His leaves are for the following:

          1 Illness of wife
2 and 3 recovery leave (this is the normal term, rather than a recovery from illness)
4 Can not make this one out of course some form of leave. This is after his wound and stay in hospital. Page 12-13 records he was in Luftwaffen Kurzlazarett Baden bei Wien on 11.7.1940 until 24?.9.1940. The right column bears the abbreviation dfg - Dienstfähig or fit for service, so it probably was not a convalescent leave seeing as he left hospital fit.
5 is a convalescent leave however.
6 and 7 again recovery leave.
8 is for festive holiday. In this case new year 1943/44.
And the last one again convalescent leave. After which he was admitted to the Krankensammelstelle on 8.4.1945 with stomach problems. He was discharged 15.5.1945 as av - arbeitsverwendungsfähig or fit for labour work only. This catagory meant he was no longer fit to fight on the front line. Additionally he was U-52 which was fit for labour work after appendix surgery or stomach operation due to intestinal disorders.

          /Ian

You grandfather is wearing the uniform of an Oberwachtmeister (Oberfeldwebel) and has the following awards:

The Diagonal ribbon is the War Merit Cross 2nd Class (Kriegsverdienstkreuz)

Ribbon bar - Long Service Award 4th Class, Commemorative Medal of the 13.3.1938, Commemorative Medal of the 1.10.1938.

              Wound Badge in Black.

I can not find an example at the moment but he has a device on the shoulder board to denote his unit. FAS - Flakartillerieschule.
