    Feldpostnummer

I've acquired a CD with Feldpostnummers. It will be a while until i get to work it out but im picking a number at random and seeing what i can gleam from it. Perhaps the experts in here can help me in finding my way initially.

    34706

    (30.7.1941-28.2.1942) 4. Kompanie Schützen-Regiment 13,

thus between those dates the FPN would have belonged to Mot Inf/Pz Gr Reg 13, 4th Company, 5th Panzer Division.

Am i interpreting the data correctly. According to the listing the Regiment kept the same number until the wars end, but adopted by he 5th Company as from 25.11.44

    many thanks

No....you have not quite go it!!!

Between those date the FP Nr. was assigned to the unit, not that it belonged to that unit between those dates.

It remained with the unit until the wars end.

        In full:

        34706

        (Mobilisation-1.1.1940) 4. Kompanie Sch******252;tzen-Regiment 13,
        (1.10.1940-27.2.1941) 5. Kompanie Sch******252;tzen-Regiment 13,
        (30.7.1941-28.2.1942) 4. Kompanie Sch******252;tzen-Regiment 13,
        (1.3.1942-7.9.1942) 4. Kompanie Panzergrenadier-Regiment 13,
        (25.11.1944-Wars end) 6.2.1945 5. Kompanie Panzergrenadier-Regiment 13.

As you can see all are "approximate dates" except 5 Kompanie.....it says that between 25.11.1944 and the wars end the FP Nr. belonged to 5 Kompanie, when in reality it was 6.2.1945 as the date is actually given!

Between 1.2.1943 and 7.9.1942 the name changed from Sch******252;tzen Regiment 13 to Panzergrenadier Regiment 13. Again this was actually done on 5.7.1942....for many of these dates external references are required.

          thanks Ian

Like i said im learning how to use the resource. i briefly crossreferenced with the Lexicon and was aware of other dates and the unit name change. im confident i'll get better as my working knowledge of German improves.

i'm chuffed i got this resource as i collect feldpost letters, these letters now have a bit more life in them as i can now find a unit and locaction, ofcourse where the information exists, furthermore i dnt have to bother the experten for FPN id's
