Here's a good one Jos found recently.....he's sleeping after drinking a keg of Heineken so I thought I'd post it for him.
        Made sure to give credit.
        Any guesses as to maker???

          Dear Tim,

I would narrow this down to either Assmann or B&NL, without seeing a close up.
          Cheers, Frank

            Hi Frank,

As usual, you're on the money. I'll say Assmann from this shot.

You DO have a better photo. I'd say Assmann.

At Tim C's request, here is a photo of Feldwebel Georg Spring of 4./StG 77 wearing the FLL pilot badge. I believe the photo dates to summer 1943.

Spring was killed 26th June 1944 during conversion training for the Fw 190. His plane crashed on approach for some unknown reason after a successful training mission dropping bombs.

                Best wishes
                Tim O.

Thanks for posting Tim O! No doubt about that being the previously unknown maker (FLL)!

BTW, check out this utube video of Hartmann receiving his diamonds.....

(posted earlier in a thread started by michael - Wijtman01)

You can see that my theory (in the beginning of this thread) of Hartmann's badge being an early Assmann was wrong. In this video it is clearly a cloth badge! I love this hobby.

Yes, in my opinion a very nice early (and rare) unmarked Assmann. Case looks nice and early as well. I'd guess that this is a '35-'39 production badge which at first didn't make sense when coupled with a mid-war pilot. In fact I found a picture of Hartmann wearing a different badge in '43. This shot was taken before Hartmann was an RKT.
By a strange twist of fate, I have found the maker of the pilots badge which Hartmann is wearing in this photo (see post number 5) .

In the process of researching this and will post more when we have completed. Could any one please tell me if there are any other threads about his pilots badges or even better any more pictures of him wearing a pilots badge esp. early in his career ?

                        Many thanks,

                        Chris

My finding certainly has the "obviously thicker wreath" observed by Tim Calvert in 2004 at the start of this thread.

I need to know more about Hartmann's wounds and any hospital treatments. What would be the best references/ books discussing that ?

Any recommendations would be much appreciated

Bringing this one to the top for another collector to see.

Post numbers 5 & 6 show the wreath & wing for sure but we need a clearer & bigger image for a comparative shot with the badge then we can add the images here,
