I've taken the liberty of scanning the attached pics from the outstanding Recon for Rommel (Stefan Ommert), which encompasses truly unique b/w and color photos of the two North African deployments of the 2.(H)/Aufklaerungsgruppe 14. This group was the only tactical recon asset available to the DAK/Panzerarmee Afrika during the initial part of the North African campaign.

The unit pin is a facsimile of the unit emblem adopted in early/mid-1942 (the Staffel's first emblem was an Edelweiss flower). The pin was apparently theater-made and was worn on the right breast pocket. Then-Lt. Karl-Otto Holzapfel (DKiG 1944), the officer named on the "award" document, took nearly all of the color photos in the book.

I assume he was NJG 2, on an Intruder mission?

No, he directly deserted. It was said he was double agent. Gestapo started to suspect that an experienced pilot, veteran from Spain never was able to achieve a single victory with a Ju-88 with the latest technology in radars and had to accelerate his plans to flee to UK.

I still dream about the mint Deumer and GWL PO I owned once upon a time ago. Just have to wait for Tim C to have some kids in college and Mark Miller has all the PO's ( that's why you never seem the for sale) ........I know where all the good stuff is.

KG55 II group stap pin

Here is a rare pin, a KG 55 II group stab pin, to mark the groups involvement in the Polish campagne in 1939, there can't be many of these badges, as the stab would only have a small number of personnel.
