      Jos,

I was wondering how you separate the wartime and postwar pins? I have a few Heer pins and I agree it can be difficult to tell if a pin is wartime. Anyway there are a numbe of no brainer wartime pins shown on the thread. Jim

Yes, there are postwar produced examples out there, ebay is full of them. The JG52 pins in post 45 are wartime with provenance from the estate of a knights cross holder that did nor survive the war.

A unit pin from J/88 legion condor....
This emblem was chosen by a fighter pilot with the great german name of Douglas Pitcairn. It was modified by Werner Molders, and again later by Adolf Galland for JG26.
Pitcairn claimed the first arial victory in the battle of france - his wingman was none other than Heinz Bar.

All extremely nice, especially the ones in Post 45.

At one time, I owned a small photo album believed to have been owned by Pitcairn (who also defended Ploesti), but foolishly let it go away.

The pins came from a fighter pilot in JG52 who later flew jets after the war. I assume the middle pin is for the jet unit he was in. One of the JG52 is period and the other obviously post war.
