Open question on glider pilots badges

There is a lot of talking about the manufcaturers of the above named rare badge, this talking and suggesting also brings a lot off confusing in what did exist, etc ....

the website and the article do give mention of the following producers :

Wich from the above are confirmed as original ?

Mayby it is time for a open question towards our dear members of this forum => wich makers did you see (and i mean actually have seen it in the flesh !!!! ) and from those badges wich where you certain that where original?

Stijn, I have a BSW marked badge that was veteran acquired in the late 50's. It remained in the same collection until I purchased it in about 1997. While I don't have providence back to the original owner, I believe it to be original. On those grounds I consider BSW to be and actual wartime manufacturer. It does seem strange however that there would be 5 manufacturers to make probably less than 2000 awards.

I only had the pleasure to handle a marked buntmetall Juncker and both a marked an an unmarked BSW. No doubt in my mind that these were originals.

I, like a few other members here, have this particular unmarked glider pilot's badge. If I remember correctly, you do not feel comfortable with this style of badge. I think that most other people are quite firm in their belief that it is 100% original WW2 production.

Gene, a lot of "old time" collectors and dealers confirm that the above badge is 100%. IMHO, the manufacturing style, quality and "feel" of these badges reflects these opinions as well. Why does Stijn not like these badges?

Juncker and BSW are definate manufactured pieces in my opinion. I haven't had the oppertunity to examine Genes' style, but from the pics it looks quite convincing. I have no clue about a Deumer produced example - I've not seen a real (supposedly) or a definate fake with this maker.

I know about two Deumer marked badges and they look quite convincing.

I have never seen an Osang marked Segelflugzeugführer badge that was not a fake.

In my opinion the style Gene shows is 100% ok and wartime.

Thank you so far to all who have responded => i am not going to convict any badges at all. It is only my goal to archieve as much information as wich badges have you seen + why you and your collector friends do believe the badge you post or speak of is original, what are the characteristics, etc .... etc ....

For example how do you attribute a certain badge that you have in the collection towards a certain producer? At wich characteristics do you look to say it is X or Y from producer.

On what do the collector bases his opinion to say a badge is original, do you look simply to dealers who offer them for this? do you browse old catalogues? , etc ....

Thank you Gene for responding already so far, what about the other guys => what do you use as a guide for these rare badges?

Wich reference books do you use, etc .... ??? Have you seen period reference books (such as sale catalogue's) with the badge in question presented?

Hi Stijn,
I too like to use the size and weight, as well as comparable components ( hinge, catch, rivits) found on different qualification badges by the same manufacturer. Also, to me, the finish on these old badges speaks volumes when compared to some of the chemical washes found on some fakes of this day and age. Reference books? Helpful? Yes, to a certain degree, but IMO, nothing can take the place of having it in ones' hand. The real ones just seem to "speak" to you.

I would love to see one comprehensive reference book about the Luftwaffe Glider forces. As a matter of fact, I have yet to see one of these badges being worn in a period photograph.

We have seen the ball-hinge badges, Juncker, BSW. I will look through ALL of the Uniformen Markt periodicals to see if there is any mention of manufacturers.
