    Hello All,

I saw the below badge offered on "The Ruptured Duck" WEB Site, and would appreciate any comments.

We as a collectors society hold Bill Shea (The Ruptured Duck's owner) and Detlev Niemann in the unmost regards, as they are extremely knowledgable and honest. If it says 100% orignal, then their word is their honor and they stand by thier word.

Can't say much for the case but the badge looks

      Original, but...

That's an original Juncker Glider Badge, as is the box. But the price is about 2X the going rate.......

        Glider Badge

Thanks to all for the comments,

Please don't take this as an attack on Bill Shea. I've bought a few items from Bill and have always been 110% pleased. But if I'm even thinking about dropping that kind of money on a badge, I will want a couple of opinions prior to purchase. It just gives me a warm and fuzzy. It's a habbit I developed as a Platoon Leader and Company Commander, I trusted my NCO's whole heartedy, but I still did my Pre-Combat Inspections prior to LD. It also gave me a warm and fuzzy, at least when everything went to s**t I could at least say we had all of our equipment .

        Again thanks to all,
        Pat

            ...100% original....and with the 'box'!!!!!

(originality is something that is evidential when it comes from Bill Shea...like the star on a Mercedes Benz)

            Pieter.

If someone out there has an original, cased example in equivalent condition for half the price, please PM me and consider it sold!

                Funny you should say that....

.... as I had one on here cased for less than half. No body bought it. I sold it to a German Dealer, who then sold it for more than I wanted!

I agree with Rick. It's really hard to move high end items on the E-stand. I remember in severel occasions that there were many extremely rare pieces here on the E-stand, which took days if not weeks to be sold. Funny was that there were all priced to sell...

Like Rick, I always will first try to sell my stuff on E-stand, to give my fellow collectors a good opportunity to buy my items for less. On the other hand it's much easier to sell through a dealer or on Ebay. As a matter of fact I have got a couple of items on the E-stand right now. It's quite interesting to notice how long it takes to sell my things on this very forum... I am sure that Detlev would sell them in a matter of 1-2 minutes... like the famous medal bar who was listed without picture and was sold in less than a minute... go figure!

I have to thank Rick for having posted on the E-stand so many good looking and rare items. Please don't stop selling your items on the E-stand!

                  Ciao,

                  Claudio

Rick, I'm truly sorry I missed it. If you should end up with another, my PM box is always open. Two years later I still take a daily glance at the silver bomber clasp I picked up from you, it's one of the nicest I've ever seen.

I agree with Claudio however that big ticket items are though to move on Estand, but I hope that forum members will continue to give us collectors first chance.

                      Yup

Yeah...I saw that super cased Glider on Bill's site as well.

It is a magnificent badge for sure and I was very tempted but at the end of the day it was way out of my price range for such an award so I decided to buy something else (which I should have in a few weeks).

I've used Bill before as well and from my personal experience in terms of helpfullness he is the best dealer that I've used, especially in terms of flexibility of installments.

To be honest it was the Glider box that caught my eye, they sure don't crop up too often. Very nice.

                      Anyway...Merry Xmas.

Considering that the Luftwaffe Glider Pilot's Badge is one of the rarest Third Reich badges, with less that 450 ever issued (Bundesarchiv statistics), a nice cased Tombak example is as rare as hens' teeth.

                            Glider piltos badge

                            Hello,

I agree on the part that a Original Buntmetal and maker marked Glider pilots badge is to be considered very rare but i disagree on the statistics presented here (Bundesarchiv). It is my humble opion that these numbers should be somwhere between 1000 and 1500 actually trained Glider pilots.

Taking these numbers into account it stays a very rare and desirable badge

And here is a thread towards such a nice badge that was directly veteran obtained

                              Anyway you slice it...

... this is still not a $4,500 badge.....
