Mysterious badges Poll #1, Balloon Observers badge

    Dear friends,

Several facts about this badge has been published during last years in this forum and all over the collecting community. Yet it is not proven wheter this badge was really awarded during war time - neither will this thread tell it to us, but it tells what do we believe.

When you vote, please state shortly what were the reasons for your decision.

I provide two links of backround information, but I post them only for beginners and new users, NOT to guide your votes to any direction:

If you have more links on this topic please post them.

    - Collecting Finnish awards, German EK1's 1939, KVK1's w/o swords and Tirolian shooting badges.
I still need EK1's L/14 Screwback and Pinback.

It looks like that before any prove is shown, Balloon observer badge is generally voted as not existing decoration...What we mean with few specimens is though unclear... but in General few specimes for me means 1-5 different types/strucks - / Different materials made by some goldsmith, which one should have been taken to further production...

I wonder what makes the one (so far) positive person believe in WW2 period awards? I am sure we all would like to hear the reason for such believe...

I believe that your first link: http://www.skalman.nu/third-reich/aw...on-article.htm , says it all. This link provides the most direct information from research, not speculation...

With this being said, until there is additional evidence otherwise I feel that the badge was not manufactored during the war. I know that it was approved for production but no further.

      Just my 2 cents...

      Thanks for the poll!!

I believe exactly like you... I wonder what would be the "proves" of the two braves ???

Where have you been Mr. Harrington? I purchased the videos and examined then in detail. The video was also examined by many others and there is NO Army Balloon Observer's Badge being worn by the HJ Leader. It is a Luftwaffe Paratrooper badge.

The poll on the Army Balloon Observer's badge should show the 4 pollsters who make up the minority 8.51% of "Helium Warriors" that the majority of the 43 "Flat Landers" who make up the 91.59 % are telling you that you are out of step with reality.

                Poll Look About Right

As an advocate of factual evidence to support an opinion I would say the poll results are about on the money. It is my opinion that a very few examples were produced for approval, but NONE were ever issued to the troops. For Mr. Kyle Harrington everyone has been waiting to see your video tape that no one else has to back up your claim. As a "flatearther" from the Hill country, I say that helium fumes, fairy dust or the aroma of the old crow dinner have simply impaired your judgment, eyesight or both. My old friend King George Ailsby (WARLORD) had retreated to his castle gracefully to eat his helping of crow from the table of his Colonial friend George Washington Stump.

                        Beat A Dean Frob

I am afraid that it is about as possible to produce proof positive that the Army Balloon Observer's badge was produced and issued during WWII as it would be possible for one English gentleman I know to produce a video with a HJ member wearing one or a road squashed frog to sprout wings, get up off the road and fly.

Hi mcglone1110, there are two ways to post pictures here. The first method is to become an association member. This is $20 per annum. Membership is highly recommended! It allows you not only to upolad and post pics direct from your PC, but gives you access to the members only pages, with it's own forum and access to lots of well written, very detailed articles on badges, plus free sales & wants ads via the "E Stand".
The other method is to post your pics on a web hosting service page and to add a link to where you have placed them.
Hope this helps you? Welcome to the forum by the way! Please let us know your first name as it makes replying to you a bit more personal
                            Cheers, Ade.
