    deumer para badge

Im thinking about getting this piece. I think it is ok but these things are a minefield to the inexperienced eye; i'd appreciate any comments.

Obviously the pin has been replaced. maybe the hinge barrel as well?

    cheers

      Hi Dave,

In dollars in the US, I would say $1000 - $1200, as pictured. It's pretty subjective though with condition, and who is selling it.

On the other hand, cased and from a dealer, $1600 - $2200. Shocking, to me at least. Paras are climbing in price and most likely won't get any cheaper.

The pin and [maybe] hinge on your example don't look Deumer to me.

      Regards
      Mark

        Hi Dave,

Nice example. Looks textbook Deumer to me, with the exception of the pin as you noted. I think the hinge barrels are fine and original to the badge as Deumer hinges are usually made from tombak, not nickel silver like yours is. Also, the ground out area under the hinge matches the barrels exactly, so I would say its original, but with replaced pin.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

I agree with Tom on this one.

If you have the chance, also try to ask whether the rivets are still fully tightened, because the right one seems to be loose a bit..
          Kind regards,

Maybe it is the image (lens distortion?), but the barrel ends look curved. Its possible that whatever caused the need to replace the pin, also affected the barrel ends.

The rivets on my example look copperish.

            Regards,
            Mark

              Hi Mark,

I see what you mean, but agree with you that it may just be the pic or created when the replaced pin was installed.

As far as the rivets, Deumer Paras are almost always found with silver colored rivets, but tombak rivets can also be found. I think if you took 10 Deumer paras, 9 of them would have silver rivets.

                  Hi Mark,

Yeah, those prices on that site are insane! That is double they are sold on other sites.

                      Hi guys,

A little correct on my statement earlier, but Deumer paras are almost always found with bronze colored rivets, not silver! I don't know what I was thinking, sorry about that. Nickel silver rivets are ofcourse also found, but 9 out of 10 times they will be brass.
