            I ment to say:

Looks as if this one has come off of a uniform - there are small holes where the stiches were.

            Cheers

                  Hi,

I just got thru reading this thread. These, in my opinion, are one of the few "cheap" nice collectibles left in Luftwaffe TR insignia.

One thing that has not been mentioned in this thread is that the Flak Insignia pictured is the 2nd pattern of this insignia. The 1st pattern was a round gray patch (similar in design to other established specialty insignia) with the barrell of a flak gun on it. This 1st pattern was only produced for approximately 6 months, making it one of the rarest of the Specialist insignia.

As for the various versions pictured and discussed in this thread, the one that started the thread is a standard version. There seem to be 2 other versions, one in a metallic thread (like Mike Heuers) and one in a heavier cotton thread (not pictured in this thread). These latter two are assumed to be private purchase pieces, which, if I recall were not authorized.

As for twisted borders, certain specialty insignia were authorized a twisted gray border for NCOs or a gold twisted piping border for meritorious achievement. The flak insignia were not authorized a gold border but I do believe that some exist as seen in period photos.

Here is a first model Flak patch!! It was only produced for six months until the larger design was introduced. Because this patch is rare, I paid accordingly!!!!
One of my favs for sure!!
