    Luftwaffe Flak Patch

Hello, I just scored a Luftwaffe flak sleeve patch and wanted to put it on here so the experts could have a look. It has a few light spots of moth attack on it, but nothing to take away from the overall appearance. I just love this style of patch, but have had terrible luck in getting one until now.

Some people have said its a Qualification badge, and some say its an award so Im not sure which it is. Im leaning towards it being a qualification patch since they have a seperate flak combat badge for using the flak gun in combat. Im sure someone here will know more about it than those I have spoken too.

The embroidery on it is very well done and its in a light grey thread. Back side appears to be white thread with little bits of the grey showing through from the front. Its been cloudy, so I took the pics inside, but they show the overall patch pretty well. I have a pic of it front and back, and the last pic is just to show how well it was packaged. The thing was wrapped in bubble wrap and inside a box large enough to fit a hundred of these patches in it. Both ends of box where completely sealed with duct tape, took me a few minutes just to get it open. Never seen an embroidered patch so well protected.

    All comments are appreciated. Thanks.

This should be referred to as a specialist or trade badge. The wearer was a trained member of a flak crew. It looks like a nice original.

This is in the wrong forum btw, but I am sure a handy dandy moderator will get it moved for you.

They needed 9 months to get this patch. It is the Flaktaetigskeitabzeichen - trade patch.

Great, thanks a bunch for the info. I havent been able to find more than vague info about this one.

Btw, sorry about posting in the wrong section. Which one should a question like this be in, Wehrmacht Uniforms and Insignia?

        Thanks again.

Oh dookie, I just realised I had this posted in the Kreigsmarine forum and not the Luftwaffe, I must have clicked the wrong link by accident.

              My appologies.

                Hey Fellas,

Great post. I've seen these before and had no idea what they were. Just a general question- did these also come in a piped version for officers? I know an antique store where one is for sale with what looks like silver piping. If so, what would be a fair price for it? What should I look for to be sure the badge isn't fake?

                Thanks,

                Josh

The silver piped one was for the senior enlisted on the battery.

There we go! Thanks, Marc. That's something I have wondered for a long time myself. They're a rare patch, and don't pop up very often. To your knowledge, Marc, were there both silver and gold-piped trade patches, or just the silver?

                        Marc,

I saw one once months ago on one of the German sites, for sure with the gold cord. I should have taken the photo, but I thought it was something common at the time, not knowing flak patches well. I'm sure of it.
I did happen to keep this photo of a patch I ran across weeks ago on some site. Would this be for Kriegs coastal arti/flak?

That is the general consensus, but I have not researched the regulations for these possible Kriegs patches.
