A tough one to call! The Combined Pilot & Observer is pretty but was allegedly thought not to be a 'proper' award by aircrew as it was also presented to political figures in recognition of their support. The Pilot Badge is aesthetically pleasing, particularly (in my view) the J2 style. I agree with lots of folk here that the Observer Badge is full of power and aggression. The Paratrooper Badge always seems to me to exemplify what it stood for, with the stooping eagle coming out of the sky. As a collection of designs I think the whole set stands the test of time. For me the 'coolest' Luftwaffe Award is the Goblet of Honour but if I have to choose one badge above the others I guess it is the J2 Pilot Badge...but like several others here, I think all the Luftwaffe Award Badges are lovely things.
To me this was a toss up between the glider and para badges. "Cool" for me has two components: badge design and what it was given for. I like the design of the eagles on each, one in a soaring attitude with wings wide spread and the other plunging on its target like a true bird of prey (although I like the army version better for that quality). IMO glider pilots were a special breed that once committed had to see their mission through. No redos, no coming around again and no pulling out and trying again another day. You release, you land and you fight. Likewise with the paras. Jump out head first, people shooting at you while you drift down helpless, landing and facing an enemy that in all likelyhood is better armed and out numbers you and having the tenacity to often prevail. To me it doesn't matter whose army men that did this were in, that's a special kind of cool.
