I have an award document for Panzerkampfabzeichen der Luftwaffe in Schwarz to an Oberfeldwebel in Fallschirm-Panzer Regiment 1 HG, dated 2 May 1945...EDIT...
Any chance of a pic/scan of the document?
best

In my humble opinion, until there is proof, they were not produced. Awards were made on paper. This is the same with the Luft CCC, though I have photos of Luft soldiers wearing the Army CCC because the badge was never produced. The word rare is a mistake in this case. Nonexistent is more like it.

A 'buyer beware' or 'buy at own risk', huh! More like 'one-of-a-kind'. Definately not 'mainstream' collectibles.
Here I am again, gonna try and post two (not brilliant) pics of pre 1970 FAKE
badge as requested by Flak 88, please don't mock me for this, I know it isnt genuine, but it is as it was purchased from a junk shop in the North of England
roundabout then. Considered to be repro by the owner for all the reasons previously stated in this thread, and no other claim about it made here.

Now THAT is a nice "original" fake. I say that because it has the classic postwar Souval catch which shows me it was not made in some guys garage. Very interesting - I have not seen this variation before - copied from a Heer tank badge no doubt.

Thanks Flak88,
I have always thought that it was quite a nice piece to look at.
Would anyone like to see pics of any of the other badges in the case before I return it, if so I'll start a new thread.
Stan, I "had" the same exact badge purchased from Ron Wollin, I no longer have it, I sold it to a friend who is convinced it is genuine for what i paid for it, I am still not sure on these.
Homer I would really like to see that grouping of yours.

The numbered Luft tank badge illustrated by Niall is a Souval made 1957 pattern Heer numbered PAB with a luftwaffe eagle added to the top.
In my years, I have seen several of the one-piece Luft Panzer assault badges that I thought were original, period produced pieces. If they were ever issued is yet to be determined, but I have little doubt they were produced prior to May 8, 1945.
The badge illustrated as sold by Niemann is of the type that have surfaced from US veteran hands. Whether anyone chooses to believe in them is their own business. As a well known guru dealer said: "It's not what is original or fake, but what is demanded to be original or fake, by collectors, that counts".
