Regarding the circle around the B&NL maker mark, I find this atypical as well - I
have not encountered this on other B&NL's either. Here's mine:

My BNL. Love their eagle. The circle is really just a heavy hand with the mallet and nothing more. Assume this shows the maker mark was applied after the eagle was die stamped.

And the back. I would also say I have not seen one before with the ring around the maker mark.

Ok I will turn it the other way, I know 2 other pilot badges by B&NL WITH the circle and both + mine came in groups (early in the war) - so I will slightly change my words and replace "typical" (for me) by "I prefer" - which doesn't mean the others are not good (I have 2/3 of them) BUT the only ones with a provenance that I know for sure came with a circle.

No doubt, Hans with the heavy mallet, stamped quite a few of these badges. Francois I respect your preference, I just don't see the difference. If the badge matches 100% with respect to all die characteristics and manufacture, you are implying that the ones with 'provenance' have the stamp and you haven't seen one without the stamp with 'provenance' which seems to cast doubt on the badges without a 'circle'.

No anger here, just trying to get clarification to your remark.

I am being friendly, just inquisitive.

There is no anger as we are only disussing - we share opinions, that is why among others pilot badges with a provenance, I am sharing that the ones I know have the circle - NEVER, and I am sorry if I wasn't clear enough , there is a suspicion on other ones.
