    B&NL Glider Pilots Badge?

    Hi Guys,
I see this one offered on the "RUPTURED DUCK" website:http://www.therupturedduck.com/WebPages/Medals/m011.htm He's asking $995 for it. I was not aware B&NL produced a Glider Pilots Badge. Has anyone seen a B&NL before? I only know of Juncker, Deumer, and BSW. Any thoughts on this one?

    Hi Eric,

I've never seen a B&NL before. Comments? Absence of rivets! As to authenticity, I have no idea, although the hinge/pin/catch construction looks OK for a zinc badge. The makers mark is not clear enough for me to comment on - B&NL have a stylised "&" and the double striking obliterates the critical details in the image.

      No rivets!!!!!

the "L"also looks very strange, a questionable badge to say the least, and for that price.

        Ouch

These 'late war' soldered Gliders seem to be cropping up all over the place at the minute. I was offered one last weekend in Edinburgh.

I have no idea if it is authentic, maybe they made them without rivets and maybe they didn't. I am sure they weren't too concerned about cutting corners at the end of the war when bombs were dropping here, there and everywhere.

However whilst I couldn't say if it original, I can say it is certainly not what I would call 'textbook' and I believe that should you wish to resell it at a later date, it may prove rather difficult to get rid of, at least at that price. Personally I intend to stick with riveted badges.

          Exactly!

I was wondering if someone would pick up on the "no rivits" right away! Besides the B&NL maker, a Glider Badge whos adler is "sweated" onto the wreath?I heard of the late war Flak Badge with the sweated on adler, but never a Glider Badge. Possible I guess but I have never seen or heard of such a Glider Badge nor have I ever seen one here or for that matter even mentioned here or anywhere until now. Too many questions here, especially at $995. C'mon Luftwaffe Badge guys, no one else cares to add their 2 cents - Stijn, Tim C., someone?

An awards reference book I have by C. Ailsby, makes reference to a late war Gliders' badge with sweated on eagle. I personally have never seen one of that type but I don't dought there was such a thing. I guess it's possible. I don't want that type for myself. Too hard to explain at "show and tell " time. For myself I want a textbook type. A worn zinc one will do. The $995. price doesn't scare me either. I just would'nt want or need another piece to keep me awake at night. Have enough to worry about now.

My advice is to keep saving for a tombak badge by a know maker, and be patient.
Check out the details on this Juncker....

                  badge's

                  hi,
strange how badge's change metal and constuction as the years go by, any body would think someone's faking them.
Up until a number of years ago therte were only zinc close combat badge's them overnight they evolved and all the dealer's said they were real these whitemetal/nickel silver one's.

                    Hi

                    Hi Tim.

Superb Glider badge you have there. Is there any chance of seeing the reverse to have a look at the hinge and catch?

                    Cheers.

                            Cheers

                            Thanks Tim.

Can I ask you if you consider the catch on yours to be the only authentic type? I have seen a few with quite chunky flat metal catches, like Souval without the press out effect.

Would it be ok for me to keep those pics for my personal library?

I am in the market for a Glider and might have the chance to buy a cased Juncker quite soon if things go according to plan. The price is going to be 1100.00 sterling which is expensive but not excactly extortionate I think.

                              Another

                              One other question Tim.

Regarding the wreath on Glider badges, do you feel that the two top ends should meet tip to tip?
