Front Flight Clasp altered by the Geschwader work shop?

Maybe this is yesterdays news and it has already been up for discussion but I didn´t find any thread on this so maybe not.

While organizing my collection of KC-holders signatures I noticed this interesting looking pendant to the Front Clasp. KC-holder is Franz Gapp.

It looks like the pendant is home made from thin sheet metal, with the centre shaped to a high point.

I'm more intrigued by the ribbon with the star on it. What's that? A foreign award?

This is a Gold Bomber Combat Clasp with Hanger. A late war production by R.S.S. in zinc it has lost most of its gold color finish on the obverse. The reverse retains a good deal of it.

The hanger was obviously attached in the field as evidenced by the solder on the small links. This was not unusual.

The ribbon with a star must be for the italian military valor medal, probably in silver.

The field altered clasp clearly meant something to this pilot as he could have easily replaced it with a factory made example when he went back to Germany to have this studio picture taken

I have read in some books that the repair crews took great pride in attaching the numbered hangers to the Flight claps for the pilots/crews. I am sure alot of this was done in the field.

The pendant is the currently dismissed as fake FLL style found on some very late war FLL attributed clasps! I will find a picture- great find!

Actually there are some differences in the cutting out although the centre starburst looks the same- I have seen this one somewhere I am sure! I will do some more digging!

No Patrick, they are not the same as the pendant you posted in that thread, which I believe is a Souval fake. Here is a side by side, notice the leaf tips and also the lack of integral connecting hooks at the top of the one in question, which necessitated them punching holes in the pendant to hang it. This is a field made example.

Hi Tom, totally agreed they are not the same like I said in my prior post with the link- I do recognise the upturn of the middle leaves on the pendant so not sure it is field made, I will see if I can locate an image of another like this
