I'm fairly new to medal collecting and I have this badge. I understand that this maker did some post-war work as well. How does it discern from war time pieces and is this one making the cut? Thank you!

Hi msams,
That's a "wartime-compatible" Souval but likely refinished by Souval/Umlauf in the 1960s. Here the discussion on an Auxiliary Cruiser badge with the same finish:

Here are some better photos. Question as a novice of these... does the potential post war treatment completely ruin the piece value wise?;

I preface my comments with I'm not a great judge of market values, but I'd say in this case the refinishing probably doesn't change value much since a) the refinishing was likely by Souval/Umlauf in their own shop and b) most Souval KM badges already carry the stigma of poor construction and large numbers of post-war leftovers. It's still a decent "starter" badge for display on a uniform.
