      Hi Schlange,

Well, the finish is certainly much better than one normally sees on these badges but it might be okay. Typically the f.o. gilding is a bit more gold-coloured and shiny like on these Fleet badge examples, but that could just be difference in the photo lighting conditions.

Here's a link with some other f.o. Auxiliary Cruiser badges for comparison as well:
      http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=699021

But regardless, I'd certainly be suspicious that the hinge was re-soldered. If anything, the solder around the hardware on f.o. zincers retained the gilding better than the surrounding badges but here was see the opposite with missing gilding around the hinge.

      Best regards,
      ---Norm

And just for fun here's another nice honest example, aged but unworn, from a trophy belt posted in this thread: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...57#post4818757

        Best regards,

I agree, it looks like original FO AC but the finish does not seem believable to me. This gilt rather resembles post war Souval type of finish. On mint FO badges the gilt is more red than yellow.
Here is my FO AC for comparison.
          Cheers,
          Hubert

And here is my FO HSF with most of the gilt intact.
            Cheers,

The finish does look too good to be true on this example,i have to think it has been refinished ?

Here is a boxed example that i have, with the look i would expect to see from a period zinc award.

Hubert has a very fine example and hard to find in that condition.

                  Regards,Martin.

                        Hi Martin,
Our badges look like a twins actually, exactly the same variant and condition
Mine is missing a box though.
                        Cheers,
                        Hubert

I forgot, I have one of these as well, all alone surrounded by Minesweepers.

                          Best regards,

Well, this is how it starts, HSFs are tempting, I know that
BTW, what is written on the box, 'bad ones'??
                            Cheers,

No, I promise I won't buy any more "non-Minesweepers"! And you're right it does look a little like "bad ones" (even though it says "badges") but then again, almost anything that isn't a Minesweeper is bad. . I don't think the box is period.

                              Best regards,
