                Hello Eric-Jan,

IMO "War made" of a "Bacqueville" badges isn't proved.

                  Hi Схід,

I am one of the non believers of "Bacqueville".

                  1 and 3 "Bacqueville type"
                  2 "Souval type"

All three are in my humble opinion post war made.

                  Best regards

                  Eric-Jan

Bacqueville made badges are in France original for everybody as the real story of them is well known : found by thousands still in their issue boxes for most of them in the cellar of the french Navy Ministry building after the war !
These buildings were the KM Headquarter for France during the war ...
The french manufacturers made a lot of stuff for the germans : uniforms, buttons, embroidery, bayonets, equipments ...so why not KM badges ?
If they were really worn ? Another story...
For a long time the german "specialists" didn't accept them regarding the average quality of production . Now they are even in the famous big catalogs , seen as lower priced variations .

Rather than rehashing the same debate, all of Nick's points are stated/addressed/discussed in the pinned poll thread:
                              http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ad.php?t=42901

There are links to several other of the many threads on this topic in the pinned "Other useful threads" topic:
                              http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=459227

At this time, it's misleading to state "the real story of them is well known" or "these are accepted in France", but individuals in many countries often feel quite passionately in support of the various anecdotes that have surfaced over the years. They could be wartime production or not, and each has to decide for himself based upon their review of the topic. Having thought long and hard on the topic I'm still "agnostic", and my view is summarized best in my posting here:
http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...26#post6422826 There's much I like about them and the anecdotes of U.S. vet bring-backs are compelling (not German vets since they were never awarded), but it doesn't yet constitute proof.

Their history being unresolved at present, most dealers are quick to accept them on face value which doesn't mean much. They're certainly collectible oddities in their own right as long as they are not misrepresented.

Having said all that, the Destroyer example at the top of this thread is a poor representative of the genre with amateurishly applied replacement hardware. Here's a "proper" example from the database (from the collection of the late Jan Arne Stræte).

                              Best regards,
                              ---Norm
