Genuine Kriegsmarine honor roll medal- Grandfather took during WW2

My wife's grandfather was a Canadian paratrooper WWII in Germany (1st Canadian Batallion) and he brought back several medals, a 1939 german copy of Mein Kampf with slip cover, has a nice stiff spine with a Nazi hand stamp and a dedication page, we also have a big Nazi dagger, and other items. I don't want to overwhelm you with too many items at once, but I would really like to know what you think about this Kriegsmarine medal. Another forum had some interesting info to offer. I know my wife's grandfather: he did his homework and he was very cunning- I'd be VERY VERY surprised if you guys conclude that it is not genuine. My understanding is that only 37 of these were given, 11 posthumously.

Although I can not see the picture, I assume you are referring to the Navy Honor Roll Clasp. While not many were presented, many more were manufactured than issued. They are the rarest of the 3 Honor Roll clasps.

You would need to become a member to post pictures or have someone post them for you.

Very nice example. As already stated, awarded examples are quite rare but unawarded not so much so.

                    Hi onecanpara,

                    Welcome to WAF!

As the others have already said, that's a nice original Honor Roll Clasp of the type brought back by Canadian vets.

Here's a thread showing more nice originals as well as a few fakes for comparison:

                    Best regards,
                    ---Norm

                          Very nice HR Clasp

Many of these seemed to have been picked up by Canadian servicemen at the end of the war. Must have something to do with where they were stationed at the time. I have had a few come my way over they years coming from Vets from the east coast.

You guys have been great, and a big help too. As soon as I figure out how to load photos to this forum, I'll post the other items my wife's grandfather brought back, including a blue 1939 copy of Mein Kampf with actual Nazi stamp. I just found out it was a wedding gift presented by the mayor. Thanks again all of you.
