I was just adding my "two cents" worth as a collector of Hilfskreuzer awards,which i failed to mention in my last post.

That is the advantage of being very focused since the prices of everything is so high these days. You can spend more on one piece that you really want.

We don´t know if Winkler really got EUR 3000.–, do we?

But it´s a very nice badge and quite rare with that maker´s mark.

If the price of a marked one is in or around 2k - 2.5k euro or there abouts. What would an unmarked "Schwerin" be worth?

I believe I am after getting the unmarked "Juncker" mixed up with "Schwerin".

If this is the case what are the unmarked "Juncker"s worth in euro?

Well, since all the badges he describes as follows are really Junckers, not Schwerin, he is asking 1250 or so in euros.

Rare is a word used to describe nearly everything in this hobby. Compared to their Juncker counterparts the Schwerin is not found nearly as often. As far as the price, yes it is extremely high but one could wait for years before finding another in this condition.

Yes its not hard to find a AUX badge but as i understand this maker marked badge is not so common

Which is why your approach to the hobby has a great deal of merit based on prices. Depends on the collector, but I guess we are in the same basic camp, just that you specialize even further than myself.

Years ago, you could afford to buy over Heer and LW in addition to KM, but who can do that today? Look at what has happened to numbered badges since recent books have been published. So with this is mind, if you decide to just collect Minesweepers like Norm, or AC badges, or destroyer badges, it makes sense.

I agree with John on this. Maker for maker, within the tombak badge production, I think Schwerin KM badges were generally produced in the most volume followed closely by Juncker. But rarity in circulation is based not only on the number produced but also on how popular they are and how tightly people cling to their examples. Therefore certain badges like this one just don't come up for sale too often. It's a good example of how the subjective perceptions and desires of the collecting community lead to escalation of prices, regardless of the number originally manufactured.

I do admit with the above comments by John and Norm.

The badges shown in this thread are superb examples of their type.

To me the tombak Schwerin Hilfskreuzer award is the finest the company ever produce of all of their KM production.

This is my opinion of course,and some may disagree.

My original comment was based upon rarity of the awards,meaning that the Japanese made badges are far more rare,although not as attractive as the Schwerin made pieces to many collectors,i think.

So,i guess i was somewhat surprised by the price difference between the two awards.
