Do a side by side with all other known destroyer badges by this maker of the front and check out the waves for one thing.

It is a fake IMO. I see other issues also.

The JFS fake has been developed over the years and we have 45 threads on JFS in the database more or less.

If you check the database I think you would decide to stay away from this one.

Sure, originals may be on a particular website, but if it was me, I would be especially cautious before putting my money down.

The ball hinge is faked better and better, but still, none of them are good enough I think but it takes side by side comparisons and careful attention to the details originally engraved by the maufacturer.

I agree. This doesn´t look like a casting and should be a good piece.

Nevertheless the piece shown by theepiphanynowin the first posts is a fake in my opinion.

Apart from what John has said, texture of the reverse surface and its colour is very similiar to the badge that started this thread and was undoubtfully considered to be a cast fake. When I compare it whith my original example I can see also a difference in the hinge base plate which in Staegemeir's badge has distincly curved edge. I tried to mark it on the enclosed picture. What is more, obverse details on the ship and eagle look more sharp and clear than in my badge.
            Cheers,
            Hubert

I would say that 20% of the badges on his site are original, I would really like to see that kind of copy...

I have to agree with John that this one is a well crafted fake.

Hi guys maybe its just me but I always feel when we point out some of the tell tale signs in such depth we are making things alot harder for ourselves in the future as well as adapting the fakers next model or is that just me. Regards

He has the original in his possession to make these fakes. He just needs to put these two next to each other to see what went wrong with his fake. He won´t need us for this, just two healthy eyes.

I would really like to handle the last destroyer shown here, imo this is the best way to find out if it is original or not.

                      Regards,

Hi Mrg, I agree with you.

We have not mentioned the most obvious problem with this badge but I am not saying anything more. The thread takes the path of "prove it is bad" versus (Thanks Norm--inside joke there) "prove it is good" from those that like it.

It is just a forum and opinions will differ of course. I will say if this went on estand, I doubt if anybody would buy it now.
