    Destroyer Badge Help

    Hello,

I found this for sale today and I need some help to determine the authenticity as I don't have very extensive knowledge in kriegsmarine badges. I found one out there on the internet by this same maker and most things look good on this, however it looks so good, that I am worried about this one being a possible repro.

As always, any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

    Hi Jeremiah,
Enclosed there is my JFS destroyer which I consider to be a textbook example, although in worn condition.
In your badge the obverse details are fine and the finish alike. On the reverse the main pin looks a bit to thin - usualy is thicker and feature sharp ending (your is dull). There are only remnants of a hinge base but it looks like a manufacturing defect. These are very minor issues though. What is the weight of it? Maybe I am getting paranoic but can you see if the catch and upper pin are realy crimped and not only pretend crimping as I cannot notice it from these pics?
If above is ok, which I belive is true, then you have original JFS Destroyer in very nice condition IMO

    Cheers,
    Hubert

The badge shown by theepiphanynow is a fake in my opinion. It´s a casting.

Might be casted copy (remnants of hinge base may indicate so) but better pictures of the reverse and dimensions would be helpful. I think that condemning this badge basing on such pictures is unfair.
Here is another example to compare.
          Cheers,
          Hubert

I will try to get the dimensions and some better pics from the seller. So far, these were the only 2 pics that he sent me.

Well it sounds like there is more negative feedback on this piece than I had really hoped for, so I believe I will stay away from it. Thanks again to everyone for all the help!

Without a doubt. Just look at the surface of the reverse!

I have no doubts at this point too, it must be a cast fake.
But Staegemeir can make it even better than this. Look at the JFS destroyer posted by John here:
                      http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...stroyer&page=2
Finish seems very similiar as in the badge that started this thread.
One could get burnt by such quite easily.
                      Regards,
                      Hubert

I honestly don´t know what to make of the last badge shown here. I think that it might be good, but this one should be examined in hand.

                            Regards,
