Seems about right. Torpedo Los has them at 18, so 1 gm is not a big deal IMO.

I don't know how accurate the scale is also i might have to re calibrate it.

I see it has the typical 'barber polling' on the pin as found on some of their (GWL) Luftwaffe Badges.

Thanks John..I'm quite fond of the GWL Destroyer as well

As Gordon said over on the GMIC forum...If GWL had made this badge in Tombak, it would have been 'up there' with the Schwerin's and Zimmermann's.

The barber poll effect comes from the wire extraction process and can sometimes be found on badges from other makers as well. Actually such twists are a sign of bad quality on wire as it speaks for poor setup of the extraction machine or wear to the syphon used to make the wire thinner.

GWl tend not to hold the finish well, however for reference here is one with all original finish which has a satin like appearence, weight 18.6g

Normally found with deteriorated finish which can be an odd greeny/gold in colour but also has a distinct grainy look to it. One with the original issue carton. wt 17.8g

Here's the "barber pole effect" on an S&L Reiterabzeichen, another Lüdenscheid made badge.

I like the badges shared; GWL did produce a nice U-boat badge. I love the cut out on the swaz look.
                                Very nice examples.
