    HSF by RS

I have this badge on the estand. There is some interest, but some concern with RS badges. Namely the curved "R" vs. the angled "R". I got this from a local dealer who says he got it from a vet. I have no reason to suspect otherwise. Comments please.

Yours looks like the "angular" logo to me..no?

The badge looks good to me. I think that Souval badges are controversial partially because of the "angular" versus "rounded" logo , pre-war versus post-war debate. This is not unlike the current debate over the S&L IC's. Add to that that there are few discussions or analyses of the Souval Kriegsmarine badges. I have seen several varieties but they are not "hot" topics of discussion.

Schwerin badges clearly dominate the Kriegsmarine desirability market. The zinc FO, RSS and Souval Kriegsmarine badges seem to "suck hind teat" behind Schwerin...even though the former are relatively much rarer.

But fear not...in some respects, badge collecting is much like the stock market....what is not popular today may be the "darling" of tomorrow.

        Hi Harry,

The hinge/pin/catch look like wartime construction to me. The tone/age to the gilt finish also looks good imo. I think this one is OK.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

Hi Harry, I don't think this badge is a problem. The rounded S on the RS badges is not indicative of post war production. The catch seems to be the identifiying attribute and yours looks pre 1945. If no one picks this baby up, send me a PM, I'll take it!

Thanks for the confirmation guys. I was confident it was good. This will help stir some offers for a very reasonably priced badge.

Lorenzo: not sure if this is the angled lettering or not. I'm not to up on that topic.

              Hi Harry,

Compare it to Frank's PAB posted in this thread:

              http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ad.php?t=35650

Franks badge features the angled lettering. Difficult to tell from your pics because the pin obscures the S

And here is the mm on my S-boat with angled letters

Thanks Philippe. Mine is like Frank's PAB. Rounded "R", but angled "S". If that makes sense...
